Bean Sprouts Guisado

This is one of our traditional way to cook bean sprouts, sauteeing it with shrimps but in this dish I added carrots and cabbage to add more taste. I also added small amount of chicken broth to keep it moist.

2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium onion, minced
1 thumb-sized ginger, cut into thin strips
1 small ripe tomato, thinly sliced
1 cup peeled shrimps
1 medium carrots, julienned
1/3 cup broth
2 tbsp. fish sauce
1 ½ cups shredded cabbage
1 ½ cups bean sprouts
1 stalk green onions, cut into 1 inch length
pepper to taste
2 tbsp. cooking oil

1. Heat cooking oil in a pan, sauté garlic for 30 seconds, then add onions, ginger and tomato, saute until tomatoes are tender.
2. Add shrimps and carrots, stir to mix with the spices, then add broth and fish sauce. Let it boil, add cabbage, cook until tender.
3. Add bean sprouts, green onions and pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute more. Turn off heat and serve immediately.
